Metrics Monday – Training Budget and Time

In-house managers struggle with time and budgets for training.

31% of creative leaders have very limited funding for training—the most critical component of a creative department’s non-personnel budget, as our team members must continue to develop their skills in order to meet expectations in the changing communications environment. Teams with between 10 and 30 team members have the highest per team member training budget. The largest teams have the smallest per person budget.

I’m a left-brained creative, equally adept at leading both creative and operations, passionate about how design thinking can be used to drive innovation, strategy, and profitability. An inspired creative influencer and problem-solver with extensive experience at building, transforming, and leading marketing, branding, and creative teams that deliver creative ideas and business results for national and international brands. With industry experience that is as diverse as my knowledge of the creative process is deep I have provided creative solutions, thought leadership and design thinking to major brands such as Banana Republic, The Gap, National Football League, KPMG, HOW Magazine, and Arizona Public Service. Outside of the office I have been teaching visual design, marketing and brand strategy, and end-to-end user experience for over 10 years to design students in the undergraduate and graduate programs at Sessions.edu, Pratt Institute, Rowan University, and Phoenix Art Institute. I am also the President of the Board of Directors at InSource, and have been consulting with HOW Magazine and the HOW Conference in various thought leadership capacities including development of the in-house curriculum for HOW U, webinars on managing and leading creative teams, writing for print and online, and as panelist and program advisor for the In-House Managers Conference since 2014. I earned my Master’s Degree in Design Management from Pratt Institute, and have an BFA in Fine Art and Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts.
