If your college grad came to you and asked, “Dad can I have $250 dollars?” would you say no before she could even finish her sentence?
Now, if the same kid went to her Dad and said: “I would like to join an organization of my peers so I can learn X, for $250. Don’t you think you’re going to get a yes answer? Yep.
Put everything into context when you ask for budget, tools and staff. Prove the need, the savings or the added benefit to the organization and your professional development. If you can put some logic and strategy behind the spend, you’ll be surprised at how often you’ll hear YES.
